Interesting Facts

A native of southern Illinois, Professor Rickert graduated from St Louis College of Pharmacy in 1971 and began practicing both retail and hospital pharmacy until he joined the College in 1981. During his early years, as the only pharmacy administration faculty member at STLCOP, he taught economics to second-year students, marketing to third-year students, entrepreneurship to fourth-year students, and pharmacy law to fifth-year students. In 1986, he developed a graduate program in pharmacy administration and served as the program's director until 1990 when he was chosen to serve as Dean of Students and Vice-president of Student Affairs. During his time as Dean of Students and Vice-president of Student Affairs, he instituted many new programs, including the Drug Awareness Peer Education program that was funded by a FIPSE grant. This program allowed students to be designated as Leadership Scholars during their STLCOP career. In 1997, Professor Rickert returned to teaching and began employing creative writing as a tool for developing self-awareness and leadership. In 2011, he published The Parallax: See Yourself with New Understanding, which has helped hundreds of students improve their emotional intelligence.
